Moscow threatens with crushing blow to Georgia

Publication time: 25 February 2010, 08:45

"The defeat of Georgia will be even more crushing in case it wages a new war against neighboring states", the ringleader of the Russian "general staff of the armed forces", Nikolai Makarov, threatened.

"I think the second attempt will end with much worse results for Georgia", Makarov said in an interview with the Russian TV station RT.

We would like to mention thereupon that Moscow calls neighboring states South Ossetia and Abkhazia that are occupied by Russian troops.

According to Makarov, everything is possible from Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili.

"He is a person with absolutely unpredictable psychic and I think the decision of our president to declare Saakashvili persona non Grata in Russia is completely correct. It was he who launched the war", the Russain military ringleader claims.

Meanwhile, a former Soviet dissident, Vladimir Bukovsky, who is now staying in Tbilisi, where he gives lectures to Georgian students, said in an interview with the Rustavi 2 TV that "the whole world knew about the preparations of Russia for military aggression against Georgia, but the expected aggression was not assessed adequately, the world did not respond to it accordingly".

Bukovsky points out that Russia still didn't fulfill its obligations and that an impression could be made that the main things for the West from Russia are oil and gas and hence good relations with Russia.

The former dissident predicts increasing provocations coming from Russia because, as he says, Moscow needs constant tensions in its relations with Georgia in order to show its own strength to the West and the United States. "This is a geopolitical game", he said.

Concerned about the upcoming sale to Russia of a French warship "Mistral," Bukovsky said that it is an aggressive weapon, a real danger in Russian hands.

As we have previously reported, France agreed to sell one warship Mistral to Russia for about 500 to 600 million EURO.

"Mistral" is an universal assault ship that combines the functions of a helicopter carrier and a ship-dock with a cruising range of 32 thousand kilometers. "Mistral" is able to take on board up to 450 people, and in a short operation - up to 900 people.

In additions, the ship can carry 16 helicopters, six of which could be simultaneously placed on the landing deck, four light landing boats or two landing boats on air cushion, as well as more than 40 tanks.
