Pragua Watchog and radio 'Liberty' refuse to publish Dokka Umarov's interview

Publication time: 11 July 2009, 12:45

A few days ago a text of interview of the Emir of the Caucasus Emirate Dokka Umarov has been published on a website of human rights publication Pragua Watchdog.

As said on the website the interview had been taken by telephone.

Kavkaz Center had reprinted this interview.

Kavkaz Center has made a written request to editorial Pragua Watchdog and radio "Liberty" to present an audio record of the interview.

In its response, the radio "Liberty" said that it did not have the audio version of Dokka Umarov's interview.

In its turn the Pragua Watchdog edition in response indicated that it can not provide audio record to KC "for the reasons of security of journalist who had interviewed Dokka Umarov".

It was also said that for the same reason it is not possible to publish the audio record on the Internet.

Meanwhile, on July 9 the Chechen service of radio "Liberty" aired a part of the mentioned interview, where Dokka Umarov answers several questions.

In the presented part of the interview Dokka Umarov does not mention those questions and themes which had been published on the website of Pragua Watchdog and had been attributed to words of Dokka Umarov.

Thereupon, KC is again, this time publicly, addressing to the editorial Pragua Watchdog to publish the full audio version of interview of Dokka Umarov, if there's any.

If the PW is concerned about the safety of its journalist, who took the interview, they can remove his voice from the audio file. However, the appeal to security of journalist of Prague Watchdog doesn't look seriously; as all phone calls are recorded by FSB and they already can have the voice of journalist of PW in its database.

KC's request is due to doubts in the accuracy of translation of interview with Dokka Umarov.
