US Copter Shot Down, Over 12 US Invaders Slain in Iraq on Monday

Iraqi Mujahideen forces had shot down a US helicopter in the al-Ishaqi area, south of Tikrit. The Mujahideen fired a surface-to-air rocket at the helicopter causing it to crash in a garden in the middle of town during Sunday-Monday night. The crew of the American aircraft had been killed in the attack and their bodies had been recovered.

 

Iraqi Mujahideen and US occupation troops had fought a four-hour battle in al-Hadithah, 236km northwest of Baghdad. US Marines fought Muhjahideen armed with rocket launchers, medium and light machine guns, and hand grenades. The Americans called in helicopters to attack the Mujahideen from the air. The fighters sniped at the Americans from rooftops and detonated bombs in the path of the Marines. At least 10 American Marines were either killed or wounded in the fighting.

 

An Iraqi Mujahideen marksman shot and killed a US soldier on the Hajlan Bridge that crosses the Euphrates River in al-Hadithah.

 

Iraqi Mujahideen attacked the US base in the center of ar-Ramadi, about 110km west of Baghdad at 1:30pm local time on Monday afternoon. A gun battle erupted after the grenade attack and lasted about half an hour.  Flames and smoke could be seen rising over the building.

 

An Iraqi Mujahideen bomb exploded by a US patrol in western al-Fallujah on Sunday afternoon. The explosion destroyed one Humvee, setting it ablaze.

 

An Iraqi Mujahideen marksman shot and killed a US soldier in ad-Dulu‘iyah, 97km north of Baghdad. A US soldier who was manning a checkpoint in the city was struck in the head by an Iraqi sharpshooter's bullet, killing him instantly, the Al Basrah reported.
