Publication time: 7 November 2006, 11:37

Iraqi Mujahideen forces had shot down a US helicopter in the al-Ishaqi area, south of Tikrit. The crew of the American aircraft had been killed in the attack and their bodies had been recovered.

Iraqi Mujahideen and US occupation troops had fought a four-hour battle in al-Hadithah, 236km northwest of Baghdad. US Marines fought Muhjahideen armed with rocket launchers, medium and light machine guns, and hand grenades. The Americans called in helicopters to attack the Mujahideen from the air. The fighters sniped at the Americans from rooftops and detonated bombs in the path of the Marines. At least 10 American Marines were either killed or wounded in the fighting.
