Algerian Mujahideen Issues a Eulogy for Shamil Basaev

Publication time: 20 July 2006, 10:03

The Salafist Group for Call and Combat (GSPC) in Algeria issued on July 19, 2006, a statement in eulogy for the military commander of the Mujahideen Shura Council in Chechnya, Shamil Basayev. Condoling the Chechen Mujahideen and praising Basayev as steadfast in jihad and "cleaning the Chechen land from the Russian filthy people," the group states that the deaths of their leaders is a sign that they are on the right path. Rejoicing in a leader's martyrdom then, the GPSC believes leaders have been left behind who will wipeout the "illusion of the Russian dog," Putin.

Shamil Basayev AKA Abu Idrese  died July 10, 2006, in Ingushetia, when an explosive laden truck in which he was riding accidently exploded.
